"I saw this as a fantastic opportunity to improve my driving skills whilst having some fun. On a personal level I wished to push myself beyond my comfort zone in a car.
Did I achieve my aims- Yes and No
The course enabled me to improve my driving skills in these low grip conditions and to really feel the car. To be more precise I moved from a person with 19 steering techniques per corner (a little scary) to just one technique in two days! I was unsure of how I would know when I was getting the techniques right, the answer appeared to be when I could sit back, relax and realise that you are not actually going that fast. Of course this was helped by the fact that I now had 18 less steering techniques to perform, side effects of this being shrinking biceps!
Irrespective of the tasks at hand it teaches you a lot about how you react in a learning situation, do I listen (I hope so), do I try my hardest (most of the time), can I laugh at my own mistakes (yes-constantly). This was a fantastic environment for learning and comfort in error. Teaching methods of multiple types were seen from the three coaches, not to mention the fantastic teaching from all the others on the course who were scarily good!
What aims did I not achieve? As with all good learning experiences you suddenly realise your first aims barely scratch the surface, so now I have a list of more specific thoughts, questions and theories and a lifetime to learn them. It is true, the more you learn the more you realise you have to learn. The sign of a good time is that on your return you continue to mull over and digest over the following weeks and months. Just remembering the eerie sound of the car on ice makes me grin..............."
